By Luke Johnson | For The Oregonian/OregonLive Three young, feverishly talented Portland actresses bare their skin and flaunt their curves, exploiting themselves silly in "That Pretty Pretty; or, The Rape Play," the shocking, hilarious, gloriously gratuitous production now playing at Defunkt Theatre. Except this time, all the undressing and ultraviolence actually serve a higher purpose: to expose male-dominated Hollywood for the misogynistic fraud that it is.

Kudos to filmmaker Penny Lane and writer Thom Stylinski for the clever approach they take to their new high-concept documentary, Nuts!, about John Romulus Brinkley, a real-life Kansas doctor who in 1917 attempted to cure impotence by transplanting goat testicles in men. Too bad, though, the onscreen result is less than stimulating—much, much less funny or cute than it thinks it is.

In heavily borrowing from 1994’s “Fargo,” as well as 2014’s authorized FX network revival of the same name, the perhaps not-so-creative team behind “Cut Bank,” the new indie film set to open Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Roxy, seemed to forget to bum one or two key elements from the brothers Coen – namely the darker than a black steer’s tukus humor, the rich, likable characters, and, oh yeah, a plot.
